Alot of my friends have begged me to write a book. Since my work ranges, it has been compared to Mayo Angelo, all the way to Zane- an erotic author. Interestingly enough I have yet to read either person’s work.
My question is, considering I love to write and have a real passion for it, how can I get paid? I really wouldn’t mind making it a real source of income. I have a good base on my myspace page of about 15k readers or so: myspace.com/taraisomsmith, so I’m almost certain there is a want for my work. I have applied to blogging sites, but I often get bored because they don’t pay. Can I write a book? Like a compilation of my thoughts? Would that end up being a best seller? Or should I write a novel? If I write a novel, how will I incorporate so many different topics? Sorry for the rambling, Im just trying to get a better idea of what my options are because I don’t know. I just know I love reading and writing, and apparently, I’m good at it… So any advice would be helpful…

Thanks! 🙂

  1. Get a hold of The Writer’s Almanac, a regularly published resource for writers, which includes listings of publications soliciting articles and lots of tips on getting published. Since your range seems pretty eclectic it sounds like article writing may be a good starting path.
    Good luck!

  2. What writing have you submitted to journals? Magazines? E-Zines? Who do you read, what do you read? Why do you think yours is a unique voice? Have you looked at the markets? Do you know publishers? Authors? Do you mean Maya Angelou? Is there anyplace one can read your writing without registering? Post one or two samples here, let’s see what you’re talking about.
